LightWorks recognizes many of our customers require precise metrology to characterize the performance of their critical optical systems. Leveraging our extensive experience in building our own special test equipment (STE), we offer this capability to industry. We design, fabricate and assemble a variety of STE, ranging from simple collimators to fully automated systems for measuring image quality and other critical parameters of electro-optical sensors. We have designed equipment for the full spectrum of UV/VIS/IR sensors.

If your STE requirements demand ultra-high precision, automation, computer control, or difficult environmental conditions, LightWorks can develop a test system to meet your requirements.

Steerable Collimator Test Station

Our customer came to us with a requirement to design, manufacture and deliver a high precision, steerable mirror collimator test station with a schedule of less than 22 weeks. The 20-inch aperture parabola has better than 0.03 waves rms figure. The system has better than 0.3 microradian pointing accuracy over a 38 milliradian field of regard and less than 0.20 micoradians of jitter. The mirrors are constructed of low CTE ZeroDur and the structure is super invar. The pointing accuracy was achieved by the use of calibrated distance measuring interferometers. LightWorks achieved the 22 week delivery and was give a letter of commendation by the customer for our success.

WFOV VIS / IR Test Collimator

In the first phase of this project LightWorks worked closely with the customer’s systems engineers to define the functional and performance requirements for WFOV collimator to test space instrument. Our team worked to define the configuration so that the instrument and test equipment could be installed in an existing vacuum chamber. In the second phase of the project we completed the detail design and analysis and delivered a fully integrated, calibrated and tested collimator. Some of the key features of this WFOV VIS/IR Test Collimator as follows:

  • WFOV (4x4 degrees) Reflective TMA-SPDT/Post Polished Mirrors
  • 4-inch Diameter, External Pupil
  • VIS to LWIR Performance
  • High Temperature Blackbody Source, GPIB Control
  • Precision X-Y-Ø Stage, GPIB Control
  • High Precision Distortion Calibration
  • Motorized Filter Wheel Assembly, GPIB Control
  • Motorized Target Wheel Assembly, GPIB Control
  • Temperature Controlled Gas Cell for Spectral Calibration, GPIB Control
  • Controllers, Cables, Thermal Sensors
  • Boresight Reference Assembly, Target Assembly/Alignment Tooling
