PRODUCTION OPTICAL INSPECTOR

Inspector I, II & III

LightWorks High Volume Production (HVP) Facility, Vista, CA

LightWorks Optics will be expanding into its LightWorks HVP (high volume production) facility in Vista, CA, in March of 2008.  Applications are now being accepted for all levels of Production Optical Inspectors (Inspector I, II and III).

SUMMARY: 

Perform in-process and final inspection of all optical elements and assemblies manufactured in the High Volume Production area to ensure they meet print specification.  Perform receiving inspection of optical and mechanical assemblies manufactured by suppliers.  Inspection techniques and product tolerances will be clearly defined.

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·         Inspect optical and mechanical elements for surface quality and optical and mechanical dimensions, working from operations sheets, drawings and specifications. 

·         Working under moderate supervision, exercise judgment as to the acceptability of the product inspected.  Identify and call to the supervisor’s attention continuing problems so corrective measures can be initiated.

·         Use optical test measuring devices and basic hand and measuring tools (micrometers, gauges, calipers, etc.).

·         Responsible for careful handling of optical test devices and measuring tools.

·         Clean and visually inspect all optical elements prior to use.

·         Maintain all inspection/test equipment in proper working order.

·         Perform work to department standards and cooperatively work with other employees to exchange information and ideas for quality improvements.

·         Order supplies to support the continual flow of inspection items moving through a section.

·         Cross-train into other company operations, such as optical and/or mechanical assembly.

·         Perform all required documentation and recordkeeping.

·         Handle product with extreme care in order to prevent loss of manufactured product.

·         Adherence to all safety requirements associated with assigned duties and work location.

·         Keep work area in a clean and orderly manner.

·         Perform other related duties as required.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

·         Ability to read drawings, specifications and follow written and verbal instructions in order to accurately perform inspection operations.

·         Ability to inspect optical and mechanical elements for surface quality and optical and mechanical dimensions, working from operations sheets, drawings and specifications. 

·         Ability to accurately read and record required documentation.

·         Clean, handle, and pack optical elements or assemblies without causing damage.

·         Good attendance and ability to report for work during specified working hours. 

PREREQUISITES:

·         Understanding of the English language, with ability to read and interpret both written and verbal instructions, drawings and specifications and to complete all required documentation.

·         Coordination and a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention is required for inspecting components and assemblies.

·         Experience.  Prior inspection experience (as indicated below) involving hand and eye coordinated skills is typically required in order to meet position requirements.  Prior experience in precision optics preferred.

·         Inspector I – 3-12 months

·         Inspector II – 1-3 years

·         Inspector III – 3-5 years

·         Due to technology protection requirements, all employees of LightWorks HVP must be U. S. Citizens or U. S. Permanent Residents.
